Junior golf is what Nick is most passionate about. He takes pride in combining the fun of the game and the learning experience so each junior player can test their ability while improving the necessary skills to play the game. As a newcomer to golf, the skills needed to play are different than those required to be competitive so each program is designed based on the players age, ability and golf IQ. Nick’s experience in coaching competitive juniors is extensive, from years at Glen Abbey Golf Club with Sean Foley’s junior elite program to coaching at the Gary Gilchrist Golf Academy in Orlando, Florida with 60 international juniors training full time during the school year. His knowledge as a competitive player and NCAA Champion has helped juniors earn NCAA Scholarships to the US and beyond.
Nick’s junior programs are held at Pipers Heath Golf Club, just west of Toronto in Milton, Ontario. Each program follows Golf Canada’s Long Term Player Development Guide, including the major components to all governing junior associations, such as the Golf Association of Ontario (GAO) and Future Links. Competitive juniors will play the local and regional tournaments and some have the opportunity to qualify and travel to larger international events.
Junior Programs
Nick has also been involved in the implementation and coaching of 2 development programs in Ontario. The first mirrors the GAO Golf In Schools program where all students at St. Mildred’s Lightbourn School from grades 2-12 have golf as part of their Physical Education curriculum, an after school club for those students looking to take it further, and a Senior Girls Team which competes locally throughout the CIS (Canadian Independant Schools) athletic league. The second is the Muskoka Woods Golf Academy, which runs as week long development camp in Muskoka at 3 of Canada’s best golf courses: Grandview Golf Club, Lake Joseph Club, and Rocky Crest Golf Club. Golfers have the chance to play these private golf clubs while learning how to shape their shots, shape their game, and shape their world. Both programs began in 2007 and have continued to grow.
Nick coaches the Oakville Chapter of Golf Canada’s Girls Club. Girls ages 10-14 will meet weekly for 18 weeks to improve their swing, their game, and their comfort level on the golf course. This program is designed for girls who is looking to have more fun on the golf course. Over the 18 weeks, participants will play on the golf course 3 times to discuss pace of play, etiquette, and Girls Club Strategies.
Pipers Heath Golf Club is a GAO Development Center that includes a development pathway so that players can practice, train, and see the pathway similar to other sports. Whether your young junior is looking to enter the game, eager to compete, or is currently competing locally, Nick has a well suited program.
